Kentucky cornerback Jiquavious Marshall plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, he announced Tuesday via X. He spent just one season with the Wildcats and took a redshirt, so will have all four years of eligibility remaining.

“First and foremost, I would like to thank God for blessing me with the ability to play football at the highest of levels and allowing a kid from Georgia to take his talent to the SEC,” Marshall wrote in his announcement. “Next I would like to thank Coach (Mark) Stoops and the rest of the Kentucky staff for believing in my talents and taking a chance on me when they didn’t have to.

“To Big Blue Nation and the brothers I’ve made along the way, thank you for welcoming me in with open arms. I’ll never forget the memories made and Kentucky will always hold a special place in my heart. After much prayer and reflection, I’ve decided it will be best for me to enter the transfer portal with four year of eligibility remaining.”

Prior to Kentucky, Marshall played for Westview High School in Macon, Georgia, where he was a three-star prospect in 2024. He ranked as the No. 596 overall player and No. 62 cornerback in the cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Once he officially enters, Jiquavious Marshall will be the 24th overall player and the first cornerback that Kentucky has lost to the transfer portal this offseason. The Wildcats have also added 19 players and rank No. 14 according to On3’s Transfer Portal Team Rankings.

The spring transfer portal window is set to open on April 16 and will close April 25. Marshall can officially enter his name in the portal any time between then. More than 2,900 players have entered their names into the portal so far this offseason.

More than 2,800 FBS scholarship players entered their names into the NCAA’s transfer database during the 2023-24 school year. Removing those who withdrew or went pro, the final total sat at 2,707 transfers. That means roughly 25% of all FBS scholarship players hit free agency in one year.

In data gathered over the first two years with transfer windows, the NCAA found most athletes enter the portal within the first four weeks of the portal opening. The study showed that 73% of men’s and women’s basketball undergraduate athletes entered during the first four weeks. That increased to 82% for men and 86% for women in 2024.
