Kentucky senior defensive back Tyrell Ajian announced his intentions for the 2022 season on Saturday afternoon. He’ll be coming back to the Wildcats for one more season, he let fans know on his Twitter page.

He wrote: “Big Blue Nation, I want to start this off by thanking everyone who’s been along for the ride. From my family, to my brothers on the field, and all my coaches. You have all been a huge part in who I am and who I’m becoming. I can’t thank you all enough for that.”

“With that being said, I have decided to come back to Kentucky for one more year. Returning will allow me to grow and develop more on and off the field. There are also goals I want to achieve for myself and for the team. Run It Back. Tyrell Ajian #23

In the 2021 season, he had 46 tackles, one interception (95-yard pick six), and four pass breakups. His season-high for tackles came on Oct. 2 against the Florida Gators, when he racked up eight.

In four seasons after redshirting with the Wildcats in 2017, Ajian has snatched four interceptions in his career–one each season. During his entire Kentucky career, he’s tallied 121 career tackles.

The pick six this season came against the UT-Chatanooga Mocs. It came midway through the fourth quarter and allowed the ‘Cats to come out on top.

After the game, he thanked Kentucky fans for bringing the energy to help propel them to victory over the Mocs.

His presence will be warmly welcomed in the Kentucky secondary, as they are losing a number of players: Davonte Robinson, Yusuf Corker, Cedrick Dort Jr. and Quandre Mosely.

He’ll be one less defensive piece the Wildcats’ coaching staff will have to figure out to replace for the 2022 season.
