It is by His grace that I have had the incredible opportunity to pursue college athletics, and I’m forever grateful for His presence in my journey,” Matthews wrote. “I would also like to express my deepest gratitude to my coaches, the strength and conditioning staff, and the athletic training staff.

“Your dedication to helping me develop both as an athlete and as an individual has meant the world to me. The lessons I’ve learned from each of you have had a lasting impact, and I will carry them forward in all that I do.

“To my teammates and friends, thank you for the unforgettable memories and for being a constant source of support. The relationships we’ve built and the experiences we’ve shared will always hold a special place in my heart.”

After only seeing action in four outings in his true freshman season in 2022, Matthews ultimately redshirted. Matthews played high school football at Woodbridge (DE), where he was an unranked prospect, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Noah Matthews notched 70 tackles and 10 sacks in his senior season at Woodbridge. For his efforts, he was named first-team All-State, an All-District selection and the 2A Defensive Lineman of the Year by the Delaware Interscholastic Football Coaches Association.

Now, Matthews will search for a new home somewhere across the college football landscape. He has two years of eligibility remaining. Matthews is the 15th Kentucky player who has entered or plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal.
