Kentucky Football: Las Vegas releases early point spreads for 3 games on Wildcats schedule

Alex Weberby:Alex Weber07/14/22

The sharps out in the desert have spoken regarding three Kentucky football games in the 2022 season. FanDuel sports book released a slew of spreads for games this upcoming season. Three of which being games that the Wildcats are involved in. Vegas has odds on Kentucky’s games at Florida, at Tennessee and home against Georgia. Three of the tougher games on the ‘Cats schedule this fall.

Of course, it will come as no surprise to UK fans that they are underdogs in all three by a field goal or more. You know, despite finishing 10-3 and winning a New Year’s Six Bowl. Mark Stoops and Vince Marrow won’t mind. They’re used to embarrassing the expectations set by oddsmakers and college football experts on an annual basis.

So take a look, BBN, at how the sharps view these three matchups.

Kentucky (+4) at Florida

Sure, Kentucky Football dispatched a ranked Florida team in Lexington last season. Who was hot off nearly beating No. 1 Alabama just before their trip to the Bluegrass. But that loss kick-started a dreadful rest of the year for the Gators, culminating in head coach Dan Mullen getting ousted from the job.

Billy Napier’s 2022 roster isn’t much more talented than last year’s group. It probably isn’t at all. Meanwhile, UK returns the quarterback that engineered the best offense of the Stoops era (and a top-25 unit in the country). Under DC Brad White, the boys in blue run a typically stout defense — and though last season was a minor dip defensively, the ‘Cats will be much healthier and deeper after returning most of their core from 2021.

Kentucky (+3.5) at Tennessee

Can’t argue with the Vols being favored too much. Tennessee owns heartbreaking wins over Kentucky in two of the last three years. With last year’s bout in Lexington winding up as one of the most explosive and exciting games of the 2021 SEC slate as the two battled into the 40s before Tennessee prevailed. The 2022 rendition figures to feature a similar round of fireworks as quarterbacks Will Levis and Hendon Hooker return after finishing as two of the most efficient passers in the league a year ago.

Though let’s remind folks: Kentucky kicked Tennessee’s tail backwards, forwards and sideways the last time these two met in Knoxville.

Georgia at Kentucky (+16.5)

No other way to slice it: Georgia owns the SEC East, including Kentucky. The Dawgs haven’t allowed the ‘Cats to come within double-digits since the 2016 season, and they won that one in Lexington, too. No reason to think Georgia won’t beat Kentucky. But make no mistake: one of these days, UK is going to topple UGA.

Without their historic defense, we’ll see if Stetson Bennett and the Georgia supporting cast can be quite as dominant.
