Kentucky Football officially announces the return of Liam Coen as offensive coordinator
Kentucky football fans can breathe a sigh of relief. Almost a month to the day after reports leaked that Rams offensive coordinator and former Kentucky OC Liam Coen would return to Lexington for the 2023 season, the news finally became official. On Tuesday, UK officially announced Coen’s return to Mark Stoops’ staff.
Here was the tweet from the team Twitter account making the Liam Coen re-hire official:
Kentucky hired Coen ahead of the 2021 season and was a big part of their 10-3 record a year ago. The Wildcats averaged 32.3 points per game, which was 36th in the nation and the best under Stoops, behind Coen’s leadership. That’s why it was such a letdown for the program that, after just a season, Coen chose to return to the pros and take the OC job for the reigning Super Bowl Champion Los Angeles Rams.
Breakout years from Will Levis, Chris Rodriguez, and Wan’Dale Robinson were big parts of the success of Coen’s offense. However, considering the drop-off with new OC Rich Scangarello this past season, it showed just how important he was for Kentucky last season. Now, he’s back and the Kentucky offense looks primed for a potentially huge year.
