Kentucky guard Kerr Kriisa enters NCAA Transfer Portal

Kentucky guard Kerr Kriisa has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. Kriisa only spent one season with the Wildcats after transferring in from West Virginia last offseason.
Kriisa only played in nine games for Kentucky this season before suffering a season-ending foot fracture in Kentucky’s 90-89 win over Gonzaga on Dec. 7. With the injury, Kriisa was able to preserve his year of eligibility remaining.
Before getting injured this season, Kriisa averaged 4.4 points, 2.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game while shooting 27.9% from the field and 26.3% from beyond the arc. Despite Kriisa’s lackluster shooting numbers, he was a valuable sparkplug off the bench for Kentucky.
Before leaving the game against Gonzaga, Kriisa tallied eight points, three rebounds and four assists. On the play he was injured, he left a lasting impression in fans’ minds by rushing back to defend Gonzaga’s fastbreak after initially falling.
If Kriisa plays at the collegiate level again next season, it will be his sixth year. He spent his first three collegiate seasons at Arizona before playing one year at West Virginia, and finally landing at Kentucky. Now, Kriisa will search for a new home once again.
Kentucky fans shouldn’t be entirely surprised by Kriisa’s decision to move on from the program. Earlier this month, Kriisa was hesitant to confirm he’d be back for the Wildcats next season.

“It’s been very interesting. I don’t want to talk about next year because it really doesn’t matter. We’re in March. We have the biggest games of the year right now,” Kriisa said. “I don’t know if I want to do another three months of college. College summers are long. I might go overseas. We’ll see.”
Kerr Kriisa’s decision could’ve been influenced by his potential competition in the backcourt at Kentucky next season. The Wildcats are adding four-star freshmen guards Jasper Johnson and Acaden Lewis next season.
Additionally, the team is expected to return All-SEC Second-Team selection Otega Oweh, along with this year’s freshman guards, Travis Perry, Trent Noah and Collin Chandler. Further, Kentucky has made contact with several guards in the NCAA Transfer Portal.
Alas, Kentucky would struggle to find a guard with more experience than Kriisa. The Estonian has 108 career appearances and 94 starts. He will look to finish his collegiate career elsewhere next season.
