Kentucky guard leaves game following dangerous loose-ball collision
As players dove for a loose ball during Kentucky’s game with Florida, the Wildcats had a guard suffer an injury after a dangerous collision. Freshman star TyTy Washington left the game immediately and jogged to the locker room while heavily limping.
Kentucky’s TyTy Washington involved in scary collision
While the play itself was fairly routine on a basketball court, Washington appeared to come out on the far worse end of the second-half collision. Florida’s Brandon McKissic dove for a loose ball as Washington attempted to scoop it from the ground. McKissic hit Washington right in the knee area, and after Washington rolled out from beneath the Gators’ player, he immediately stood up while hopping on one leg. He then rushed off the court towards the locker room, visibly concerned with the injury.
Adding to the concern, those present at the game stated that Washington collapsed before reaching the locker room and needed assistance the rest of the way. The crowd in attendance made sure to voice their own frustration at the scary collision.
“Rupp Arena now soundly booing Brandon McKissic, the Florida player who went down with TyTy, every time he touches the ball,” said Kentucky Sports Radio’s Tyler Thompson.
Washington joined Kentucky as a five-star recruit according to On3’s Consensus Rankings, as the third-ranked point guard in the nation. In 23 games as a starter for the Wildcats, he has averaged 12.9 points per game as a crucial part of their success this season.

Kentucky basketball gets special intro video
As junior Jacob Toppin was ruled out for Saturday’s game, Kentucky’s starting lineup against the Florida Gators featured Keion Brooks Jr., Kellan Grady, Oscar Tshiebwe, TyTy Washington Jr. and Sahvir Wheeler. The starting five received the special assist from the Kentucky Children’s Hospital, in a video that the team shared on their social media. Fans will have a tough time deciding if it was more wholesome or more exciting, as the kids brought the energy to each of their introductions.
Toppin was injured in the first half of Kentucky’s win over South Carolina on Tuesday. Near the end of the half, Toppin rolled his ankle while playing in the post and had to leave to the team’s locker room. Although the injury hasn’t appeared serious, it has been enough to cause him to miss most of that game as well as all of Florida.
Kentucky has played their way to the No. 5 ranking in the nation behind a 21-4 record, with notable wins against Kansas and Tennessee. The Wildcats have not lost a game on their home court this season.
