Kentucky offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan joined Andy Staples on the latest episode of Andy Staples On3 on YouTube, where he spoke about Wildcats quarterback Brock Vandagriff.

Vandagriff is entering his first season in Lexington, after beginning his collegiate career with the Georgia Bulldogs. While he was stifled on the depth chart with Kirby Smart’s team, he’s looking to become a star with the Wildcats, as he gets his opportunity in Kentucky.

“Brock Vandagriff is a guy that we’ve known about since he was a recruit. He’s been heavily covered. You know, he just happened to get behind some really good players at Georgia, and now we get a chance to see what he can do,” Staples prefaced. “What’s it been like, working with him?”

Evidently, Hamdan is a big fan of Vandagriff and his play, and he believes the sky is the limit for the Kentucky signal caller in 2024 and beyond.

“He’s a consummate pro,” Hamdan responded. “He’s just one of those guys, he’s about his business. He loves the position, in and out. He’s been coached tremendously well at Georgia. So you know, system wise, there’s probably a lot of similarities, maybe some change in verbiage.

“So again, I think it’s a mature, mature player, who loves the game, inside and out, and again, it’s a guy who had to wait his turn, and things maybe haven’t happened exactly how he’s wanted them to, but there’s certainly some perspective there. There’s some grit there.”

As you can tell, Hamdan is enthusiastic about the transfer quarterback, who joins Kentucky after three years at Georgia, and is expected to be the team’s starter. Additionally, Kentucky also signed four-star freshman quarterback Cutter Boley, a local product who has received rave reviews from the coaching staff in the past.

With those two, Hamdan believes he has a solid foundation heading into next season, as he noted earlier this year.

“You don’t take the job unless you feel pretty good about that quarterback room and the acquisitions they had,” he said, earlier in spring. “So I’m excited to work with all those guys. I know they’re eager, too. Brock and a lot of those guys have already been by and I’m excited to get to work with them.”

Moreover, Vandagriff spent his three seasons in Athens backing up Stetson Bennett and Carson Beck, where he was a part of two national championship rosters. He appeared sparingly in blowouts, compiling 165 yards and two touchdowns on 12-of-18 passing.

Opportunity is knocking for Brock Vandagriff and Bush Hamdan in 2024, and the duo could take the Kentucky offense to a new level. It’ll be fascinating to keep an eye on the Wildcats this season.
