In the history of Kentucky Wildcats football, there has not been a more played opponent than Tennessee. The two bordering state programs are separated by under 200 miles and have faced off against each other every year since 1919.

The two will renew their rivalry on Saturday in Lexington at Kroger Field. For just the fifth time in history, a ranked Kentucky team will play an unranked Tennessee team after the College Football Playoff committee ranked the Wildcats at No. 18.

Before the game, the official Kentucky Football Twitter account released a hype video for their game against the Volunteers captioned “These are the games that make memories. These are the games that matter most.”

Highlights and commentary from previous wins in the series feature as well.

Kentucky will be looking to get back-to-back victories in the series for the first time since 1976 and 1977. Fran Curci was the Wildcat head coach at the time.

Current head coach Mark Stoops has a career 2-6 record against Tennessee, getting wins in 2017 and 2020. Last season’s victory was his first-ever one on the road and the program’s first in 36 years.

As for Saturday, Stoops’ team will look to continue to lean on junior running back Christopher Rodriguez Jr. He has 809 rushing yards on the season, good enough for second in the SEC, to go along with six rushing touchdowns.

Tennessee comes into the matchup on a two-game losing streak to Ole Miss and Alabama. Going up against two of the best offenses in the SEC, the Volunteers have given up 500 yards in both of the games. Kentucky will be looking for similar results.

In addition to the hype video, Kentucky announced they will be wearing their all-blue uniforms with their famous checkered sleeves on Saturday.

ESPN2 will broadcast Saturday’s Kentucky-Tennessee game. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET at Kroger Field.
