Kentucky WR Ja'Mori Maclin makes announcement on future as transfer portal rumors swirl
Kentucky wide receiver Ja’Mori Maclin will remain at Kentucky for the 2024-25 season, he announced on Thursday.
His announcement comes after several members of Kentucky’s offensive unit from this past season hit the transfer portal. Maclin had a breakout game against Louisville in Week 14.
He nearly doubled his season total during that matchup, having caught three passes for 121 yards and a pair of touchdowns against UK’s rival. It was one of the only high points of the 41-14 loss to the Cardinals, representing all of Kentucky’s scoring on the afternoon.
As it stands, Maclin will be the top option for whoever starts under center for the Wildcats in 2025. Whether it’s Brock Vandagriff, Cutter Boley or another QB that is yet to be on the roster remains to be seen.
He’ll have to replace the workload that Barion Brown and Dane Key, who have already announced their intentions to leave Lexington this offseason. Both have been mainstays of Kentucky’s offense since Will Levis was under center, and it appears Maclin will be tasked with picking up their workload this offseason.

The NCAA transfer portal officially opens on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024. More than 2,800 FBS scholarship players entered their names into the NCAA’s transfer database during the 2023-24 school year. Removing those who withdrew or went pro, the final total sat at 2,707 transfers.
That means roughly 25 percent of all FBS scholarship players hit free agency in one year, per On3’s Pete Nakos.
