Kentucky heard some better news on the statuses of Lamont Butler and Jaxson Robinson on Friday.

At his press conference this morning, Mark Pope said Butler and Robinson will both work to different extents at practice. Butler will go live a bit while Robinson will be doing skill work today.

“Yeah, so, Lamont is going to get a bit of live action today,” Pope said. “Live? When I say live – modified.”

“Jax is going to be in some skill stuff today,” added Pope.

Butler and Robinson have missed stretches of time, specifically all or of portions of the past three games, during conference play for UK.

Butler, the team’s starting point guard, has been dealing with a shoulder injury that affected him for two games before missing three to end last month and start this one. Then, after returning for a game and a half, he re-aggravated it with that causing him to miss the last two. Robinson, their starting shooting guard, then injured his wrist during practice on February 7th. He’d go on to play the next day but has since missed the past three because of it.

With that, Kentucky has been in the middle of conference play without their backcourt in Butler (12.5 points (50.9% FG. 38.5% 3PT), 4.6 assists, 2.8 rebounds, 1.8 steals) and Robinson (13.3 points (38.1% 3PT), 3.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists).

Come the release of the injury report ahead of tomorrow’s matchup at No. 4 Alabama, Butler and Robinson will probably each still be unlikely to play, if not outright out already, in Tuscaloosa. Still, this is a positive sign for them both as they’re on the floor in hopes of respective returns before the end of the regular season – and Pope knows it too with the line at the end of his answer.

“How about that? That’s good stuff,” Pope joked. “That’s, like – tease you with that right now!”
