Kentucky football is finally changing up its home uniforms ahead of its SEC home-opener Saturday vs. South Carolina. After wearing blue tops and white pants for its three games vs. non-power-conference competition — Northern Illinois, Youngstown State and Miami (Ohio), to be exact — to open the year, the ‘Cats are rocking all blue threads with their signature chrome helmets.

Take a look at these beauties:

Chrome helmets with Kentucky blue for the shirts and pants. A look Kentucky has typically worn for SEC night games. Where those chrome helmets really show off under the Kroger Field lights. No wonder the combination is a fan favorite in the Bluegrass.

In fact, one of the first times Kentucky wore the “chrome domes” was during their memorable 2014 win over these same Gamecocks in what was then known as Commonwealth Stadium. Really, the arrival moment for Mark Stoops at Kentucky. The ‘Cats used a late pick-six from defensive end Bud Dupree (yes, the one from the NFL) to take down the Gamecocks for Stoops’ first SEC win of his career. The first of many and counting for the UK head coach.

Since then, the Wildcats typically reserve the chrome helmets for crucial games. Now, a game with a mediocre South Carolina team in the middle of the season may not be cause for much celebration. But it’s the SEC home-opener in Lexington. After the great start the ‘Cats got off to, the atmosphere ought to be wild for this one.

It’ll be ‘Cats vs. Gamecocks at at 7:30 p.m. Saturday night on the SEC Network, with UK looking its sharpest.
