Former Louisiana Tech wide receiver Tru Edwards has committed to Kentucky, via the NCAA Transfer Portal. Edwards began his career at Navarro College before transferring to Hawaii and then Louisiana Tech.

In the 2024 campaign, Edwards erupted for career-highs of 85 catches, 989 yards and six touchdowns. Edwards also recorded one carry and eight punt returns.

In his three seasons at Louisiana Tech, Edwards amassed 27 appearances, 108 catches, 1,273 receiving yards and eight scores. In Edwards’ lone campaign at Hawaii, he appeared in eight games as a receiver and on special teams. He finished the season with 5 receptions for 37 yards.

During his two years at Navarro College, Edwards served as a return specialist in addition to wide receive. In his final season at Navarro, the 6-foot-3 standout caught a team-high 39 passes for 434 yards and four touchdowns in seven games. For his efforts, he was named a 2021 NJCAA All-America honorable mention.

Tru Edwards is the 18th player Kentucky has added via the NCAA Transfer Portal this offseason. He is joined by fellow standouts such as South Dakota EDGE MiQuise Grace and Arkansas OL Josh Braun.

In contrast, Kentucky has lost 23 players thus far to the portal. The Wildcats are currently ranked No. 28 in On3’s 2025 Team Transfer Portal Rankings. Kentucky will need to continue to build up its program this offseason if it hopes to avoid repeating the 2024 campaign.

Kentucky finished with a 4-8 record this season, its worst record since head coach Mark Stoops‘ debut campaign at the helm of the program in 2013. After Kentucky’s season concluded, Stoops pledged to fix the team’s roster issues this offseason.

“Nobody needs to panic. We have an opportunity to get this roster fixed and work hard. That’s my plan. To work hard to get the pieces in place. I’ve worked hard to get resources in place,” Stoops explained. “I have to do that. We have to get it done. That’s the plan.”

The transfer portal officially opened on Dec. 7 and closed on Dec. 28, though players on teams still playing in the postseason will get an additional five-day window to enter the portal after their seasons end.
