Mark Stoops identifies most impressive aspect of Anthony Richardson’s game

The biggest asset to Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson‘s game is his versatility. While most think about his spectacular rushing ability in that regard, Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops has made it clear that his team won’t be underestimated his throwing abilities, either.
“It’s tough to single out any one thing,” Stoops said about what makes Richardson a threat. “Heck, he has a talented arm, you know, I think everyone is going to say what an athlete he is, but the guy can rip it as well. He can throw the football.”

Richardson and the Gators are riding high after their season opening victory over No. 7 Utah. In the 29-26 victory, the Gators’ quarterback completed 17 of his 24 passing attempts for 168 yards through the air, while tormenting the Utah defense on the ground with his aforementioned versatility.
On the ground, rushed for 104 yards and three touchdowns on just 11 carries, including a 45-yard touchdown run that came late in the second quarter and a rushing touchdown that would prove to be the game winner with under two minutes remaining.

Stoops and Kentucky were given a small sample size of what Richardson has to offer in their 2021 matchup in Lexington. Richardson completed his only pass for eight yards and had five carries for 25 yards in a limited role as the backup to current Arizona State quarterback Emory Jones.
Richardson would appear in seven games for the Gators during his true freshman season, but would account for nearly 1,000 all-purpose yardage on offense. Passing for 529 yards and rushing for 401 more, the Gainesville native set the foundation for what many expect to be a career to remember for the 6-foot-4 quarterback.
Now, Richardson and the No. 12 Gators will host No. 20 Kentucky in the Swamp in the hopes to improve to 2-0 on the season and against ranked opponents. The UK defense will have its hands full with Richardson’s versatility, but Kentucky boasts a star QB of its own in Will Levis – two of the most highly-touted quarterbacks in the SEC this season.
