Marshall hiring SEC assistant to offensive staff
Kentucky is losing a piece of their coaching staff to Conference USA. On Wednesday, On3’s Matt Zenitz revealed Wildcats Quality Control Assistant Jovon Bouknight is joining the Marshall Thundering Herd.
“Marshall is expected to hire Kentucky’s Jovon Bouknight as wide receivers coach, sources tell @on3sports,” tweeted Zenitz. “Bouknight, a former All-American wide receiver at Wyoming, has been at Kentucky the last two years. Was previously the receivers coach at Oregon.”
After a season as the wide receivers coach at Oregon, Bouknight joined Kentucky in 2020 at the same position. However, he was demoted after a DUI arrest, as KSR’s Tyler Thompson added.
“Jovon Bouknight was demoted to Quality Control Assistant on Kentucky’s staff following his DUI arrest last summer,” added Thompson.
Moreover, Bouknight has immense experience playing the position. On the Kentucky team’s website, the Wildcats highlighted Bouknight playing career.
“Bouknight was a standout wide receiver at Wyoming, where he concluded his career ranked 20th all-time in NCAA history for both career receiving yards (3,626) and career receptions (250). He also ranks second all-time in Mountain West history in each of those two categories,” stated the program. “One of the top wide receivers in Mountain West history, Bouknight remains one of Wyoming’s top pass catchers and is still the school’s all-time leader in both all-purpose yards (5,921) and kickoff return yards (2,016). He also ranks second in career receptions and third for receiving yards after catching at least two passes in all 47 games of his collegiate career. That streak remained a Wyoming record up until 2014.”

More on Jovon Bouknight, Kentucky Wildcats
In addition to Jovon Bouknight, Kentucky is losing another important piece of their offensive staff. Earlier, it was revealed that now-former Kentucky offensive line coach Eric Wolford accepted the same job at Alabama.
Wolford will replace former offensive line coach Doug Marrone, who was previously the head coach for both the Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills. The move has been expected since Sunday night when it was first reported that Alabama could be looking to make a switch at the position. According to the report, Wolford was the “likely” target for Saban.
Alabama struggled with the offensive line at times during the season, especially from the right-hand side. Quarterback Bryce Young was sacked 42 times this season, ranking No. 106 in college football. Only LSU and Tennessee gave up more in the SEC.
