Miami Dolphins cut former Kentucky playmaker Lynn Bowden

One of Kentucky’s most electric talents in the history of its football program will have to find a new NFL home. With pro teams whittling down their rosters to 53 and needing to have the full roster settled by 4:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday, a lot of players are unfortunately being cut. One of which was former Kentucky superstar Lynn Bowden. Here was the report via ESPN’s Adam Schefter:

“Dolphins are releasing WR Lynn Bowden, per source.”

Bowden himself commented on the move shortly afterwards:

Bowden’s NFL journey

A shame for a player who was so fun to watch in college. But Bowden will surely find a new home now that other teams can snatch him up. And even if he ultimately does not make an official roster, he’d be a practice squad superhero. So all that to say: Bowden’s professional career is far from over on the gridiron. However, he won’t be a part of a Miami wide receiver corps that looked to be fairly loaded heading into the season.

The unfortunate part is neither of his two departures really had much to do with football. The Raiders used a third-round pick on him. A few weeks into fall camp, they moved him and a sixth-round pick for a fourth-rounder from Miami. Basically a brand new third-round pick in Bowden PLUS a sixth all for a fourth? Odd deal to say the least.

But Bowden had a decent first season in Miami, catching a few passes and playing wherever the staff needed him. Last season should have been his breakout. But instead, he spent the entire season on the injured reserve, never playing. Then this preseason, he just couldn’t get back to himself. Of course, the Dolphins adding a superstar WR like Tyreek Hill didn’t help either.

Oh well, on to another stop for Lynn Bowden. He may not have a loyal NFL home yet but the BBN always has his back.
