Senior Day is coming up for Kentucky and the players are excited for the celebration. But Oscar Tshiebwe is even more excited for when he graduates from the school because of what it will mean to his family.

“I’m getting old,” Tshiebwe said after the Wildcats defeated Auburn. “I’m excited. First of all, I’m about to graduate. I will make my mom’s dream come true because I’ll be the first of the seven children she has had to graduate from college. I have two older brothers, two older sisters. They never graduate from college. I’ll be the first one to graduate from college.”

Born and raised in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tshiebwe is majoring in communications.

He has been one of the best players in college basketball the past two seasons with Kentucky. He is averaging 16.9 points and 14.1 rebounds per game as a member of the Wildcats.

In the 86-54 victory over the Tigers, Tshiebwe was in peak form. He scored 22 points on 8-for-10 shooting and added 17 rebounds on the glass for a double-double.

“It feels great,” Tshiebwe said. “I’ve had a dream I would graduate from college.”

Oscar Tshiebwe recently scored his 1000th point at Kentucky

In addition to his soon becoming the first of his siblings to graduate from college, Oscar Tshiebwe scored his 1000th point at Kentucky last week against Florida.

Tshiebwe accomplished the feat in less than two full seasons with the Wildcats after he transferred from West Virginia.

The reigning National Player of the Year, Tshiebwe is the first Kentucky player to reach 1000 points in over a decade. The last player to do it was Doron Lamb.

But the individual accolades don’t mean much to Tshiebwe. He has his eyes focused on other things.

“It’s not about me. It’s about the team,” Tshiebwe said after a win over Tennessee earlier in theseason. “As long as we can keep winning the rest of our games? Even if I come in and don’t make a shot. If we win? I came back to school to win a championship.”
