Congolese center Oscar Tshiebwe put together one of the best seasons in college basketball history for the Kentucky Wildcats during the 2021-2022 college basketball season. Following the season, he was expected to rack up the hardware and accolades and they have come pouring in on Friday afternoon. He was not only named the 2022 Associated Press college basketball Player of the Year, but also won the 2022 Oscar Robertson USBWA Player of the Year award, per a press release.

Tshiebwe is just the second player in Kentucky basketball history to win the award, joining Anthony Davis in the 2011-2012 season. The announcement came at a press conference on Friday afternoon from the Caesar’s Superdome–site of the 2022 Final Four. Tshiebwe led the nation in rebounding with a 15.1 per game average and also led the Wildcats in scoring with 17.4 points per game.
