Reed Sheppard continues to carry on his father’s legacy entering his first season at Kentucky.

The legacy recruit will wear his father, Jeff Sheppard’s number, No. 15, during the 2023-2024 college basketball season, according to Kentucky Sports Radio. Reed’s father helped Kentucky to their 1996 and 1998 NCAA Championship victories, including winning the Final Four’s Most Outstanding Player award during the ’98 run.

Fans were granted a tour of the Wildcats’ locker room during a recent summer camp, where the lockers were on full display. That included the entire list of players’ jersey numbers for the upcoming season.

Interestingly, Antonio Reeves’ locker is still up despite rumors of a potential transfer. Here is the full list, courtesy of KSR’s Jack Pilgrim.

Insider confirms Antonio Reeves is enrolled at Illinois State

The saga with Kentucky star Antonio Reeves continues, with the Wildcats unsure of the senior guard’s plans for the 2023-24 season.

The latest twist?

Reeves is enrolled in summer classes at Illinois State, his previous school, according to a report from Stadium’s Jeff Goodman. Goodman also notes that there are still “some moving parts with this one.”

KSR’s Matt Jones reports Reeves could be working toward finishing his degree, which would allow him to transfer and play elsewhere as a graduate transfer. Reeves recently withdrew his name from the 2023 NBA Draft pool, but he did not enter the transfer portal within the NCAA’s designated window, meaning he’d need a waiver to play immediately elsewhere — unless he becomes a graduate transfer.

“He can’t be a grad transfer, but if he finishes a summer of credits he can and he’s taking them — again, according to some reports — at Illinois State,” Jones said. “If he’s taking them at Illinois State, it’s because he doesn’t want to be here. Right? Why wouldn’t you take it here?”

Kentucky has had a tumultuous offseason, one that has seen several key departures and not enough additions.

Star big man Oscar Tshiebwe entered the 2023 NBA Draft and opted not to withdraw before the NCAA deadline to retain eligibility, so he’s gone. So too is guard Chris Livingston, who also entered and remained in next month’s 2023 NBA Draft.
