Kentucky running back Ramon Jefferson suffered a torn ACL, according to an injury update reported on Tuesday. Jefferson left the game last week in the win over Miami (OH) after just his second rushing attempt of the game and did not return to the field.

“Running back Ramon Jefferson tore his ACL. He is likely to miss the season but will try to rehab for faster recovery. He may also ask NCAA for another year,” explained KSR’s Matt Jones.

The injury is likely to keep Jefferson out for the entire year, a disappointing end to the season before it even begins for the former Sam Houston State star. Jefferson had two carries for 10 yards before suffering a knee injury on Saturday, and now it seems likely that he will be out for the year.

Jefferson is able to apply for a medical redshirt still, which would allow him to gain another year of college football eligibility.

The loss of Jefferson hits even harder with Chris Rodriguez Jr. still unavailable after a possible multiple game suspension has kept him off the depth chart going into this week. Rodriguez, an All-SEC running back last year, was one of several players unavailable last week for Kentucky despite the reason for his absence not being made clear by coach Mark Stoops. The Wildcats are now set to travel to Gainesville to take on No. 12 Florida — and will be without two major parts of their rushing game now.
