USC EDGE transfer Sam Greene commits to Kentucky
Former USC EDGE rusher Sam Greene has committed to Kentucky out of the NCAA transfer portal, he tells On3’s Hayes Fawcett.
Greene has three years of eligibility to play for Mark Stoops and the Wildcats.
Greene appeared in all 12 games this season for USC after taking a redshirt in 2023 as a freshman. He totaled 15 tackles, including three tackles for loss and a sack. Greene turned in one of his biggest games against Rutgers. That night, he had three tackles, two for loss, and a sack to lead USC to the victory.
Sam Greene played high school football at Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 468 overall player from the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
The Wildcats have lost a considerable amount of its production on both sides of the ball this offseason, so Greene’s addition is a welcome presence to BBN.
He’ll join a Kentucky team that had its best moments in 2024 on the defensive side of the football. Greene will join a front seven that loses the likes of longtime contributors JJ Weaver, Deone Walker and others.

Kentucky finished 4-8 during the regular season and missed out on a bowl game for the first time in nearly a decade. They had previously gone bowling in eight straight seasons.
The portal officially opened on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024. More than 2,800 FBS scholarship players entered their names into the NCAA’s transfer database during the 2023-24 school year. Removing those who withdrew or went pro, the final total sat at 2,707 transfers.
That means roughly 25 percent of all FBS scholarship players hit free agency in one year, per On3’s Pete Nakos.
