Will Levis compares Ramon Jefferson to Chris Rodriguez
Kentucky returned its top five rushers from last season but decided to add another playmaker out of the backfield anyway. And that decision paid off, but not how you’d like. UK’s star running back, Chris Rodriguez, is likely to miss a few games to start the season due to a suspension. But now, at least Mark Stoops has several other veteran options to start at RB next to Will Levis.
One of which being Sam Houston transfer Ramon Jefferson, a senior running back who ran for over 1,100 yards a year ago, averaging 6.7 yards per carry. Kentucky fans and the SEC at large know what Chris Rodriguez is capable of. But the ‘Cats are about to find out what Ramon Jefferson can bring to the table when he helps fill in for Rodriguez to start the year.
At practice, though, both are available and looking good. After the team’s most recent scrimmage, quarterback Will Levis asked directly how he would compare C-Rod and Jefferson. He actually answered candidly.
You can watch Levis give his answer right here or read what he had to say below.
Will Levis on Ramon Jefferson
“Yeah, he’s he’s been a great player for us. I mean we’re so solid and deep in the backfield. Like some of those guys are, like I said with the tight ends, better at doing certain things than other guys.

“But I mean Ramon, he’s like a little bowling ball. He’s like kind of a smaller version of Chris. Maybe a little shiftier and he’s got good feel too. He’s a smart football player. He’s doing a really good job in protection. And he’s he’s getting into his spots in the passing game. And he’s been able to catch balls out of the backfield.
“As long as he just plays in how he is and who he is as a player, like, he’s going to get reps for us and make an impact for sure. I’m excited.”
Sounds like Kentucky has a good one joining the backfield.
