Will Levis’ top target in the Kentucky offense will most likely be a Robinson for a second straight year. Except, this time around, Tayvion Robinson, the Virginia Tech transfer. Not Wan’Dale Robinson, who led the ‘Cats in receiving across the board last year and was picked by the Giants in the third round of the NFL Draft.

Robinson wasn’t the only departee from the ‘Cats receiving corps. All told, Kentucky lost four of its five leading pass catchers from 2021, including its three most-productive wide receivers. So an overhaul was necessary.

Stoops and staff went out and grabbed Virginia Tech’s senior wideout Tayvion Robinson to be the lead voice and starter for this year’s much younger team. He didn’t nearly put up Wan’Dale Robinson numbers at Virginia Tech, but if put in a similar situation as No. 1 on the field a year ago was, maybe Tayvion can have nearly as great a season as the previous Robinson.

When asked about the similarities in the two Robinsons, Kentucky quarterback Will Levis had plenty to say about traits the two receivers do and don’t share.

You can watch Will’s comments here around the 14-minute mark or read them in full below.

Will Levis on Tayvion Robinson being compared to Wan’Dale

“Yeah, I mean he’s he’s been a starter pretty much since he got here and he’s going to be a top target for me for sure. And we trust him, especially. He’s the receiver for sure that has the most experience at the division one level. And has a feel and a know for why we’re doing things in a knack or just how to position himself. But yeah he’s been solid for us and I know he’s a heck of a punt returner too.”

On actually comparing the two as players:

“So, I mean they’re different players. I think Wan’Dale is probably a little faster than him. I don’t know if Tayvion will get mad at me for saying that, but he might he might agree with me there. But Tayvion has a really good feel and a little bigger. His catch radius is a lot bigger too. I mean ‘Dale was amazing. He could do some incredible things with his body. But he is limited by his size, you know, and he’s not gonna let anyone tell him that. But, like, I’m gonna try to give an accurate ball, but even if it is six inches off, Tayvion might be able to make the catch whereas Wan’Dale might not be able to. Just little things like that.”

Levis likes the versatility and adaptability both bring to the table.

“But they both are extremely football smart. I mean, Wan’Dale, we could put him in any position at any play and he’d know what he’s doing. Tayvion’s the same way. And we’ve been able to do a lot of great things with him by putting him at Z, putting him at F, just moving him around. Trying different things with him. He just gets it and that’s where I think they’re most similar. Just their football IQ and their ability to be kind of moved around like a chess piece within the offense and get them into positions where where we want them to be.”
