Kentucky has had notable issues blocking opponents this season. With that, you’d think that quarterback Will Levis and the rest of the offense would fear the blitz. Instead, they welcome the blitz. After all, there are then fewer players in coverage, opening gaps to take advantage of. You, as the quarterback, just need to make that decision quickly.
Will Levis and the Kentucky offensive faced a lot of blitzes against Northern Illinois. However, the team is clear, they want it to keep happening.
“We talk about just using it to our advantage,” Will Levis said. “We want them to bring five, we want them to bring six because it just opens up holes in the defense.”

“And as long as our protection and our assignments are locked up and are on the same page as everyone else on the line and with me and the running backs, then each play we have should have a designated answer. Sometimes, I might miss those answers.”

Will Levis then explained how, on one play against Northern Illinois, he made the wrong decision on a blitz. However, had he made the right choice, the play would’ve been there. If he made the right choice, the blitz wouldn’t have worked.
“There’s one play, to [Brenden] Bates, over the middle that I kind of–someone came on the inside–and I put it on him and ended up getting broken up. But there was a much easier answer on an outbreaker to Tayvion [Robinson] that I could’ve hit,” Will Levis explained.
“It’s just a matter of getting better at my understanding of those situations and knowing that when those situations come, you can’t really react. You kind of have to know where your answers are going to be before they’re even there. So, gameplan by gameplan it changes and I just got to get better at helping my o-line by getting the ball out easier. I think we did a great job of that for most of the course of the game on Saturday, on third down especially.”
