Will Levis discusses early connections with Kentucky wide receivers
Wan’Dale Robinson is a New York Giant, Josh Ali is no longer around to bail you out, and the Kentucky wide receiving room is nearly unrecognizable from one year ago.
Fans have heard the rumblings going on with receivers like Dane Key, Dekel Crowdus and Tayvion Robinson – but what about the ones you haven’t heard of? Well, Kentucky quarterback Will Levis is excited about the room from top-to-bottom, so you should, too.
“The first practice I threw a nice little toe ball to Barion Brown on team run, which was nice – he’s got really good speed and it’s good to see his ball skills,” Levis said. “He needs to be a little more consistent. I know he can make the catches, but I think just getting the work with him and making sure that he just has a feel for how I throw the ball and just gets more comfortable with that.
“But, I mean, all types of guys have made flashes. Chauncey Magwood made a really good play on a route that we hadn’t thrown yet all season. It was good to see, he’s got a good feel for the timing when to go up for a ball and go high point it. DeMarcus [Harris] has got a really good feel for a lot of single cut routes back side, and I feel like my timing with him and my chemistry with him has gotten really, really good. But there’s been a lot of good guys that have made some good plays.”

Michigan prepared to offer No. 1 recruit $10.5M over 4 years
Brown, a four-star prospect out of the Nashville area, was one of the key pieces of Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops’ 2022 recruiting class that ended ranked No. 15 nationally, according to the On3 Consensus. Magwood saw limited action in 2021 as a true freshman, but remains far from his full potential, while Harris has been an inconsistent member of the UK lineup for the last two seasons.
Elsewhere on the receiving list is speedster Jordan Anthony – who Stoops called “too fast” and was worried he might “lose him to the Olympics” if he got any faster. ESPN even named him the fastest true freshman in the nation and comparing his speed to that of Tyreek Hill.
Kentucky will surely miss their top receivers from one season ago – but Stoops has restocked and reloaded with a multitude of talent out wide, resetting a wide receiver room that is now deeper than ever.
