As Kentucky quarterback Will Levis prepares for a matchup with Ole Miss, he is getting some inside info from a couple of his teammates. Linebacker Jacquez Jones and cornerback Keidron Smith both used to play for the Rebels before later transferring to Lexington.

In a press conference Tuesday, Levis explained how that pair has been helping him as the team prepares to travel to Oxford on Saturday.

“Me, Jacquez and the quarterbacks and Keidron were all in the tight ends room watching film together,” Levis said. “Just kind of talking about which guys are their tendencies or what coverages they’re doing. Some of the stuff they’re doing is a little different than when Keidron was there (and) Jacquez is even further behind. He was able to help us a lot with just kind of how their safeties play and what to expect. It’s cool to have them on the team.”

Jones transferred to Kentucky in 2021 and currently leads the Wildcats with 26 tackles (1.5 for loss) in addition to one sack. Smith followed suit this offseason and has a pick-six this year in addition to seven tackles and three passes defended.

The Rebels defense has changed a bit since they were on the team, and has new co-defensive coordinators in Maurice Crum and Chris Partridge. Ole Miss has been rather stingy under their direction, giving up just 10 points per game (third in the SEC). They are allowing just 193.3 passing yards per game as well.

But Kentucky will be the toughest team the Rebels have faced so far, and it’s not as if this defense has looked unstoppable. Last week in a win against Tulsa, they surrendered 27 points and 457 yards, the most they have all season in either category.

Will Levis will hope Kentucky can be the next team to expose the Ole Miss defense, thanks to help from Jones and Smith. The Rebels and Wildcats are scheduled to kick off at noon ET on Saturday in Oxford.
