Former NC State wrestler Owen Trephan will transfer to Lehigh, according to a report from Willie Saylor of MatScouts. On3’s Pete Nakos originally confirmed Monday Trephan entered the portal.

“2x NCAA qualifier, Owen Trephan is transferring to Lehigh. He’s 7-0 this year with a win over #10 Luke Luffman,” Saylor wrote on Twitter.

Trephan, a sixth year senior, already wrestled seven matches this season unattached. The Wolfpack opted to go with Isaac Trumble at heavyweight this season and he is currently ranked No. 6 in the country.

Trephan is a two-time NCAA qualifier for NC State, going 18-7 last year and 21-5 in 2023, finishing in the Round of 16 that year in Tulsa.

Trephan is expected to replace Nathan Taylor at Lehigh in the heavyweight weight class. Taylor reportedly suffered a season-ending injury, according to The Wrestling Room’s Pat Mineo.

Over the next two seasons, Trephan began to break out, qualifying for the NCAA Tournament two years in a row. He also won two ACC titles at heavyweight in 2023 and ’24.

This season, he’s 7-0 while wrestling unattached and already beat No. 10 Luke Luffman (Illinois) 4-1 in sudden victory at the Journeymen Classic on November 10th.

Other than that victory, the other six wins for Trephan this season came by bonus points or fall, giving him an 85.71% bonus right. He should provide an immediate boost to the Mountain Hawks and is an All-American contender.
