Liberty QB Kaidon Salter plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal
Liberty QB Kaidon Salter announced his plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal on Monday.
Salter made those intentions known with a post with a long graphic on social media this afternoon.
“Forever Will Cherish The Ups and Downs We Shared! #AGTG” Salter captioned the post.
“As I move forward and enter the transfer portal, I will always cherish the memories and invaluable lessons learned here,” wrote Salter. “It is time for me to take the next step in my journey and do what I feel is best for my career. With that said, the relationships I’ve built at Liberty will always remain personal and close to my heart.”
Salter spent the last four seasons with the Flames. That was after originally committing to Tennessee out of high school before he was dismissed by the Volunteers during the summer prior to his freshman year following a pair of arrests and suspensions by the program.
Salter, a native of Cedar Hill, Texas, committed to the Vols as the No. 282 overall recruit and a four-star prospect in the 2021 cycle. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also rated as a Top-30 QB in the class and a Top-50 player out of the state.
Over his career at Liberty, Salter appeared in 35 games. He redshirted his first year before appearing in 33 games, 29 of which were starts, the last three season. In those outings, Salter was 412-702 (58.7%) in passing for 5,887 yards, 56 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions. He has also rushed for 2,013 yards and 21 more scores.
Salter had a record-breaking year in 2023 as he led Liberty to a 13-1 record. They had a perfect regular season and won the Conference USA Championship. That was before a loss to Oregon in the Fiesta Bowl during the New Years Six. Among those records were single-season passing touchdowns and single-season rushing yards.

With that, Salter entered this season on several preseason watchlists for awards. He lived up to some of that, although not as good as last fall, as he was 147-261 (56.3%) for 1,886 yards, 15 touchdowns, and six interceptions while also rushing for 587 yards and seven more scores.
Salter actually considered a transfer last offseason before withdrawing from the portal just a few days later. Now, he will be going through with that choice in search of another school for next year as one of the better players in the portal upon his entry, especially from out of the Group of Five.
