Keyon Martin injury update: Louisiana CB shares promising update from hospital after being stretchered off field

Louisiana cornerback Keyon Martin shared a heartening update on social media from the hospital after being stretchered off the field against Texas State on Tuesday night. Martin is believed to have suffered a head or neck injury.

But whatever injuries he did sustain, Martin wanted to assure fans and concerned observers that he would, indeed, be OK. And he did it with a simple message and a selfie.

He posted a selfie of him in a hospital bed or stretcher along with the message, showing him giving a thumbs up while a pulse and blood oxygen meter is over his finger and a neck brace stabilizes his head.

It’s unclear when Martin will be released from the hospital and allowed to travel back to Louisiana.

The scary scene unfolded shortly before halftime of the Louisiana–Texas State game in San Marcos on Tuesday night, as Martin was stretchered off the field after an apparently severe head/neck injury.

Martin came down from his spot in the secondary to make a tackle on a Texas State ball carrier in the final minute of the first half. As he closed on his target, Martin lowered his head and absorbed collision, immediately collapsing to the ground after.

Trainers quickly motioned for the cart to come out for Martin.

As trainers tended to Martin, he was strapped down to a stabilizing board, a common practice with potential head and neck injuries to keep the spine and neck from shifting. After a lengthy delay of around 10 minutes, Martin was eventually placed on a stretcher and rolled of the field on that.

According to the ESPN2 broadcast, he is being taken to the nearby CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System, where there is a Level 4 trauma center.
