Louisiana Tech wide receiver Jerrod ‘Bub’ Means has entered into the NCAA transfer portal, On3 confirmed on Monday.

Means, a class of 2019 signee with the University of Tennessee, transferred to Louisiana Tech and sat out until the 2021 season. He finished third on the team in receiving yards with 430 on 22 catches with two touchdowns.

Despite enrolling at Tennessee in 2019, transferring, sitting the 2020 season and then playing in 2021, Means still has three years of eligibility remaining.

The 6-foot-2, 204-pound receiver is a native of Hampton, Georgia, where he was a three-star prospect at Lovejoy High School. He initially chose Tennessee over 25 other Division-I offers.

Although it’s unclear whether the Vols will have any interest in pursuing Means once again under Josh Heupel, there should be a number of schools interested in the experienced wideout with a lot of eligibility remaining. There are, however, quite a few former Power Five wide receivers currently available in the transfer portal as well.

Means joins booming transfer portal

The NCAA Transfer Portal, which covers every NCAA sport at the Division I, II and III levels, is a private database with names of student-athletes who wish to transfer. It is not accessible to the public.

The process of entering the portal goes through a school’s compliance office. Once a player provides written notification of an intent to transfer, the office enters the player’s name in the database. The compliance office has 48 hours to comply with the player’s request.

Once a player’s name shows up in the portal, other schools can contact the player. Players can change their minds at any point and withdraw from the portal. However, once a player enters the portal, the current scholarship is no longer valid. In other words, if a player enters the portal but decides to stay, the school does not have to reoffer a scholarship.
