Boo Corrigan demurs on Louisville's potential CFP ranking with ACC title: 'That would be a big factor'
With one week left in the regular season, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that No. 10 Louisville could grab a College Football Playoff spot, however long the shot may be. And with a spot already secured in the ACC Championship Game against Florida State, the Cardinals should have ample opportunity to bolster the resume.
But how high could Louisville (10-1) climb? CFP selection committee chair Boo Corrigan demurred when asked about the Cardinals chances to move closer, or into, the Top 4.
“Yeah, conference championships matter. We’ve said that from the very beginning. That would be a big factor,” Corrigan said on a conference call with reporters.
He shared that the committee is quite impressed with the Louisville resume to date, too, including showing its mettle on the road.
“But impressive wins. The win over Notre Dame, the win last weekend at Miami in really kind of a dogfight of a game and their ability to continue to find ways to win,” Corrigan said.
And Louisville running back Jawhar Jordan has stood out to the committee, Corrigan said. The way that head coach Jeff Brohm has dialed things up for him and quarterback Jack Plummer have the Cardinals squarely in the Top 10.
“His ability to play this year and the level that he’s playing at and the job that Coach Brohm has done has really been impressive. They’re deserving of that No. 10 spot,” Corrigan said.

While it would certainly take some chaos — other one-loss teams taking a second loss along with undefeated teams falling, and then some — a path remains for Brohm and Louisville to make the CFP.
One ESPN analyst felt Louisville should rank higher
Louisville sits at No. 10 with a 10-1 record. Missouri is just one spot ahead of them at No. 9 at 8-2. And that ranking bewildered ESPN’s Greg McElroy. McElroy likes what he is seeing out of Missouri this season but questions why they are ahead of a 10-1 Louisville team.
“It’s been a great year for Eli Drinkwitz. I mean, just to remarkable, remarkable achievement to have this team on the verge of a 10-win season,” McElroy said. “But, I thought there might be a case to be made for Louisville to be ahead of them this week. NC State jumped in the rankings; that’s another good win for Louisville. So, I thought maybe they would jump Missouri, but with them still staying at No.10, Missouri at No. 9, feels like Louisville has nowhere to go.”
Missouri does have one more loss than Louisville on the season. However, the committee has likely paid attention not only to who both programs have beaten but to who they have lost to as well.
Missouri’s two losses this year have come at the hands of two of the top programs in the SEC this season, LSU and Georgia. Georgia is the top team in the land and is looking to 3-peat as national champions this season. And LSU is home to the front-runner candidate for the Heisman Trophy this season, quarterback Jayden Daniels. Louisville’s lone loss of the season was against the struggling Pittsburgh Panthers. Pitt has had a tough go at it this season with a conference record of 2-5 and an overall record of 3-8.
