Caullin Lacy suffers broken collarbone, expected to miss 6-8 weeks
Louisville wide receiver Caullin Lacy suffered a broken collarbone in practice on Saturday, the program announced. He is expected to miss 6-8 weeks as a result.
Lacy was one of the top transfer portal additions for Louisville this year. At South Alabama last season, he totaled a career-high 91 receptions for 1,316 yards and seven touchdowns before entering the portal as a graduate transfer.
After hitting the open market, Lacy came in as the No. 37 overall transfer in the On3 Industry Transfer Rankings. He was also the No. 4-ranked wide receiver.
Caullin Lacy was one of 31 transfer additions for Louisville this year as the Cardinals brought in the No. 1-ranked portal class, according to the On3 Team Transfer Portal Index. It’s the second straight year Jeff Brohm and the staff hit the transfer market hard, and the reason for it is simple.
Brohm wants to win at his alma mater. In order to do that, he knows the Cardinals have to stay active on the recruiting trail on multiple fronts.
“In general, our philosophy is we want to win now, and we want to win this year, and yes, you can build for the future, and get your young players ready to play, but you want to win now, and not only do our fans want that, but our own team wants that,” Brohm said at ACC Media Days. “So, when it comes to building a roster, you know, we have some really good guys coming back, that have done a great job for us, but you know what? I think they want to win, so it’s up to us, as coaches, to build the best team, and surround them with the best teammates to help them win, because football is a team sport.

“It takes 11 guys on both sides of the ball and special teams to get it done. It doesn’t matter, strictly how good you are, but you’ve got to have good guys around you. So, we’ve tried to do that.”
By landing players from the transfer portal, Brohm can add experience to his roster every year. That is a way he can continue building the roster up, and those veteran players can come in and also make an immediate impact.
“We’re not scared to change the roster,” Brohm said. “We’re not scared to improve our football team, whether they’re starters or if they provide great competition, they play a role. But everyone we’ve brought in has been with a purpose. Quite a bit, sometimes they’re older, veteran guys that have played at any level of football, but have definitely stepped on the field and shown on video what they can do, and to this point, we’ve liked what we’ve seen, all spring and all summer, and I think all of the veterans on our team have liked what they’ve seen, as well.
“They know that if they continue to improve, and work really hard and do the small things right, we’re going to have a chance to win. So, that’s what we believe in.”
