Louisville head coach Jeff Brohm has had plenty of success with quarterbacks during his coaching career. Transfer quarterback Tyler Shough is hoping to be the next QB to succeed under Brohm.

Shough joined the Cardinals program this offseason after previously playing at Oregon and Texas Tech. He spoke at the ACC Kickoff event about what led to his decision.

“For me it was really just the opportunity to come in and contribute on a really good team,” Tyler Shough said. “They have a really high standard for success after coming off last year’s championship appearance. And then working with coach Brohm and his offense and what he’s done with quarterbacks, I think it was just kind of a combination of a lot of great things put together.”

Shough signed with Oregon as a four-star quarterback in the class of 2018, per the On3 Industry rankings. He spent three seasons there, before transferring to Texas Tech for three more years.

He has battled plenty of injuries during his college career but is now healthy and confident he’s in a great spot at Louisville.

“They kind of had the same idea,” Tyler Shough said. “They wanted an older, veteran guy to come in and lead the team and handle their offense and be able to run it and do what they wanted to do. I think it was a great opportunity and I couldn’t be more excited to be here.”

Louisville finished 10-4 in 2023, including a 7-1 mark in ACC play. The Cardinals advanced all the way to the ACC Championship Game and are looking to have more success this coming year.

Shough described just what kind of player Jeff Brohm and Louisville are getting.

“I have a pro-style skillset with a strong arm and I can extend plays,” he said. “I see the game really well now. It’s kind of slowing down at this point in time. Being able to stay healthy out there and put it all together is really key for me and for them, as well.”

Shough threw for 746 yards and 7 touchdowns, with 4 interceptions last season. He had a decent game against a really good Oregon team, finishing with 282 passing yards and four total touchdowns. However, he also threw three interceptions. If Shough can cut down on the mistakes and stay healthy in 2024, the Cardinals could be right back in the ACC title game.

Louisville’s 2024 season gets underway on Saturday, Aug. 31 against Austin Peay.
