Former Purdue and Western Michigan safety Joseph Jefferson II committed to Louisville out of the NCAA transfer portal. He announced the move on Twitter.

Jefferson initially transferred to Western Michigan in the winter window a few months ago. However, he re-entered the portal and committed to Louisville in the spring window.

IN three years at Purdue, Jefferson logged 33 tackles and two tackles for loss. He had 31 tackles in 2024, a career high.

As a member of the Class of 2022, Jefferson was a three-star recruit out of Indianapolis (Ind.) Pike, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 16 overall prospect in the state, the No. 67 safety in the class and the No. 777 overall prospect in the class.

Louisville lands Joseph Jefferson II in portal

Louisville landing Joseph Jefferson II in the transfer portal was the latest news regarding the Cardinals’ transfer activity. AJ Vinatieri, son of legendary kicker Adam, left Louisville though via the portal. He previously spent time with the Ball State Cardinals as well, but he hasn’t seen action.

The son of the legendary kicker Adam Vinatieri, AJ’s father is the all-time leading scorer in the history of the league, and the record holder for field goals made (599), postseason points (238) and overtime field goals made (12).

In data gathered over the first two years with transfer windows, the NCAA found most athletes enter the portal within the first four weeks of the portal opening. The study showed that 73% of men’s and women’s basketball undergraduate athletes entered during the first four weeks. That increased to 82% for men and 86% for women in 2024.
