The Louisville women’s basketball team got some bad news ahead of their ACC Tournament matchup against the Clemson Tigers on Thursday. Star Jayda Curry and Merissah Russell were officially ruled out the game for the Cardinals, according to the ACC Network. Curry was seen on the floor before the game, but was not dressed out. The same for Russell.

Shortly after tipoff, the ACC Network broadcast revealed why Curry was out on Thursday evening. “Louisville’s gonna have to get it done without their leading scorer, Jayda Curry, first team all-conference. Hurt her shoulder in last Sunday’s regular season finale against Notre Dame. Merissah Russell, who has a back issue, so they’re down two players,” the broadcast explained.

Both players are currently listed as day-to-day. Curry is one of the more complete players in the conference, stuffing the stat sheet with 13.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game. She also connected on 39.1% of her field goals this season. She poured in 19 points in the game on Sunday against Notre Dame.

Merissah Russell, another senior for the Cards, has been averaging 4.6 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game, while shooting 39.1% from the field. She’s also connected on 27.7% of her shots from beyond the arc this year.

As a junior, Curry played all 34 games, making five starts for the Cardinals. She ranked second on the team with 45 three-pointers, becoming one of six players to average seven points or more per game (9.0 points per game). Against No. 4 seed Notre Dame, Curry erupted for a season-high 26 points, leading the team with three assists.

Thursday night is the second time in seven days that Louisville and Clemson have played. Louisville posted a 78-52 win over Clemson in their regular season home finale last Thursday. The Tigers have only beaten the Cardinals three times, while UofL has won 13 games in a row over Clemson. The Tigers punched their tickets to the second round of the ACC Tournament by defeating No. 11 seed Stanford, 63-46 on Wednesday.
