Jeff Brohm explains what win over Notre Dame says about this Louisville team
Louisville head coach Jeff Brohm earned the first signature win of his coaching tenure with the Cardinals with Saturday’s 33-20 victory over Notre Dame. The Cardinals moved to 6-0 with the victory.
“It’s a great win,” Brohm said in his press conference after the win. “I like big games. Our team likes big games. If you can’t get up for those, this maybe isn’t the sport for you. You got to come ready to play and you got to do all the small things. You got to be aggressive. Yes, we didn’t run as many trick plays today. I thought this team was guarding us pretty well. It was hard to get some yards and then we kind of just went to our best players Jawhar (Jordan) and Jamari (Thrash) and let the others feed off them.”
The victory had many implications for both teams. The loss snapped Notre Dame’s 30-game regular season win streak versus ACC opponents.
It also marks the first time Louisville has beaten a team ranked in the top 10 of the AP Poll in back-to-back seasons. The Cardinals also beat Sam Hartman last season when he was leading NC State.

The last time Louisville has been 6-0 to start a season was in 2013. The Cardinals, playing in the AAC at the time, finished the year 12-1 with its only loss coming to UCF, who also finished the year with a 12-1 record. It was Charlie Strong‘s last season and the team’s last season in the ACC.
In addition to standout performances from Jawhar Jordan and Jamari Thrash, Louisville received a well-executed performance from Jack Plummer at the quarterback position.
Plummer was for 17 of 24 for 145 passing yards and one touchdown
“Jack was very, very efficient,” Brohm said. “Took care of the ball, threw it away when we when he had to, extend it plays with his feet. First touchdown, he scrambled outside, allowed our receiver a little time to get open. His maturity level showed up and executed very well. I gotta give our offensive line credit. These guys play hard, don’t get a lot of credit. But we ran the football against a solid defense. We found ways to get yards in the passing game in the second half and then our special teams came through and of course, the defense was outstanding.”
