Jarvis Brownlee has not played since Louisville’s 23-0 win over Duke on Oct. 28. On Monday, Louisville head coach Jeff Brohm provided an update on the defensive back’s condition.
“We’re trying hard to get him back,” Brohm said. “I’m not optimistic about this week but we’ll see how this week goes with Jarvis.”
Brownlee has 21 tackles, a tackle for a loss, a fumble recovery and four pass breakups this season. Louisville has won its last two games despite missing Brownlee, most recently narrowly defeating Virginia 31-24.
Although the Cardinals escaped with a win in Week 11, Brownlee’s absence was evident. The team’s secondary allowed Virginia to amass 314 passing yards in the contest. Virginia quarterback Anthony Colandrea connected on 20-of-his-31 pass attempts while only throwing one interception.
Louisville fans witness scary injury against Virginia
Louisville’s underwhelming defensive performance wasn’t the only thing that left fans unsettled. During the battle, Cavalier RB Perris Jones took a hit that left him motionless on the field at Cardinal Stadium.

Virginia shared news of Jones’ condition on X, formally known as Twitter, after he went to the University of Louisville’s Medical center in an ambulance from the game. According to their tweet, Jones has thankfully “regained movement in all of his extremities” after taking the hit.
Jones took a head on hit within a pack of defenders toward the end of the third quarter in UVA’s matchup at Louisville. It’s worth noting that, after fumbling following the hit, WR Malik Washington scooped it up and actually scored to give the Cavaliers a lead. However, the attention immediately, and appropriately, turned back to the health of Jones back around the 40-yard line.
Jones finished the night with three carries for seven yards. In his sixth collegiate season, that brought him up to 76 carries for 393 yards. He also has a pair of scores on the season. Virginia head coach Tony Elliott provided a promising update on Jones in his postgame press conference.
Elliott said UVA received “encouraging” news on Jones’ condition from the hospital.
“We’re getting some encouraging news,” Elliott told reporters. “I know he’s in getting an MRI right now, but the news is encouraging. Before I make any public statement, I want to have all the facts and be accurate. I know that the initial reports that we’re getting are very encouraging, according to the medical staff.”
