Jeff Brohm provides injury updates on key Louisville players as preseason camp approaches
Louisville coach Jeff Brohm had an update on a trio of players recovery from injury with fall camp just around the corner. The Cardinals can look forward to having safety MJ Griffin back at practice after he missed all of last season due to a torn ACL.
Griffin recorded 45 tackles, two interceptions and a forced fumble in 2022 during his first season at Louisville after transferring from Temple. Brohm revealed in a press conference that the DB is now fully healthy and expected to play a big role on defense in 2024.
“He is fully healed and recovered,” the coach said. “He’s had a great summer and I’m looking forward to him having a great year. I think he’s a really good leader and he’ll do a great job.”
Brohm had more good injury news later in the press conference regarding Alabama transfer receiver Ja’Corey Brooks. He suffered a shoulder injury this past season with the Crimson Tide that limited him in Louisville’s spring practice.
That will no longer be the case when fall practice begins as the coach reveals that Brooks is “full speed.” Brooks put up 674 yards and eight touchdowns on 39 catches in 2022 but managed only three receptions this past season.
However, his role with the Cardinals in 2024 will see him be one of the top weapons for transfer QB Tyler Shough.

“He was limited in the spring but he’s full speed now,” Brohm said. “Obviously, we’re protecting him as well, but he’s full speed. He’s looking good and he’s a big part of our offense.”
Finally, Brohm offered an update on offensive lineman Renato Brown, who started the first six games of last year before going down with a season ending injury. He isn’t quite back to full strength, but is making solid progress and is expected to be back by the time fall camp begins.
“Renato unfortunately got hurt in pregame warmups in the Pitt game,” Brohm said. “He’s getting close to 100%. I think by the time we get to fall camp he’ll be there, but he’s still got a little ways to go but he’s done a great job. He’s been a really valuable piece as well.”
Louisville is coming off of a 10-4 finish and reached the ACC Championship Game in Brohm’s inaugural season. With all three of these players hopefully healthy to start this season, the Cardinals will aim to build upon that success.
