Louisville has posted a great record of 9-1 to this point of the season. That has at least put them right in the conversation of the rankings for the College Football Playoff. More likely and importantly, though, they’re also in a very favorable spot to make the ACC Championship.

Still, even with that berth at their fingertips, Jeff Brohm wants the Cardinals’ focus to be where it needs to be. As he said during his press conference this week, they need to just have their attention on winning in Coral Gables this weekend and, after that, everything else will sort itself out as far as their postseason position.

“I think the most important scenario is, if we win, then we definitely help our cause,” said Brohm. “At this point of the season, you always treat it as, if you want to advance, you got to win. I just think that’s going to be important that we do.”

Florida State has already clinched a spot in Charlotte on December 2nd. That leaves the last spot up for grabs in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

At the moment, Louisville would make it in with a record of 6-1 in conference play. However, there’s a slight chance that North Carolina or, potentially, NC State or Virginia Tech could take it from them.

That’s because the Tar Heels, Wolfpack, and Hokies each have two conference games left. Meanwhile, the Cardinals only have the one because of their season-finale against Kentucky in The Governor’s Cup. That leaves a very small crack in the door open, but a crack nonetheless, for Louisville to miss the title game if they were to lose this weekend.

However, that provides a very simple, straightforward answer for Louisville – win. A victory inside Hard Rock Stadium would clinch the spot for the Cardinals. That’s why, after stumbling a bit in their last outing against Virginia, Brohm wants to see the Cardinals at their best on Saturday in order to take what they feel is rightfully their’s.

“You need to play your best football at the end of the year,” said Brohm. “We found a way to make a really good comeback in the last game when we had a time there where we were struggling. So we’ve just got to kind of regroup. Pick the pieces up and understand that it’s going to take our best performance in order to beat Miami.”
