Jeff Brohm states he was 'not in agreement' with Caullin Lacy's decision to redshirt
Caullin Lacy, one of the top transfer additions this offseason for Louisville, appeared in just four games this season because of an injury to start and now a decision to redshirt as of last week. Now, the Cardinals are doing their best to support him in that while some, including the head coach, don’t agree with it.
Jeff Brohm addressed Lacy’s circumstances with the media on Monday. He said he did not agree with the wide receiver on it as it wasn’t good for the football team. Still, their program wants to keep the players in mind in what they feel is right for them.
“Well, with Caullin, you know, we support all of the decisions that our players make, that they think is best for them,” said Brohm. “You know, I was not in agreement with the decision. It was not best for our football team but I understand where he’s coming from.”
“We definitely want to do what’s best for all of our players and always will do that. I do think we’re not as good of a team without him but, at the same time, we’re going to support him with whatever he wants us to help him with,” Brohm continued.
This would conflict with the statement from Lacy’s agent to On3’s Pete Nakos. In that message, he said that it “was a decision that was agreed upon between both parties”.
It’s that much more of a loss too since he’d just been adjusting into the offense for the last month.

“You know, Caullin was a really good player for us,” Brohm added. He was just getting fully healthy.”
Lacy caught 15 passes this year for 179 yards. Three of his four outings had him posting three or more receptions along 50-plus yards in receiving. Even with missing the start of the season, that had him among the top pass-catchers for Louisville. He also had several returns in the Cardinals’ loss to Miami for 194 yards, including his lone score of the season on special teams with a 100-yard kick return.
However, after breaking his collarbone in fall camp, Lacy apparently still wasn’t feeling right. With only four games on his record too, he was able to choose to use his redshirt to best be ready for next season and those to come rather than continuing this one.
As for the future, Brohm says the Cardinals want Lacy back again next year. That’s especially so since they’d still have wanted him for the final four games in this one. However, all of that will again be his decision.
“When it comes to Caullin Lacy? You know, we’d love to have him back,” said Brohm.
