Kentucky basketball being upset 85-79 has shaken the college basketball world to its core, but that isn’t stopping their football counterparts on getting in on the fun. Louisville football coach Scott Satterfield trolled the Wildcats, proclaiming that Saint Peter’s was his new favorite basketball team.

Kentucky and Louisville, of course, are bitter in-state rivals and are always looking to get the upper hand on each other. Louisville it seems, has won this round.

Ironically, Satterfield has never beaten Kentucky football. In fact, in his two games against the Wildcats, Mark Stoops and company have combined to stomp the Cardinals 97-34 since taking over as head coach prior to the 2019 season.

The ‘Cats and ‘Cards didn’t have the chance to earn bragging rights against each other this season, as COVID-19 complications inside the Louisville program saw their annual matchup cancelled and never rescheduled. Louisville did not make the NCAA Tournament.

Louisville expected to name next head men’s basketball coach Friday

According to Jeff Goodman of Stadium, the Louisville Cardinals will announce their next basketball head coach on Friday. Current New York Knicks assistant Kenny Payne is expected to take the job, returning to the college game after a short stint in the NBA.

Payne played his college basketball at Louisville, winning the 1986 national championship with the Cardinals. He was then drafted in the first round by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 1989 NBA drafted and was in the league until 1993. Payne ended his basketball career in 2000 after playing in developmental leagues.

Four years later, Payne was coaching college basketball, starting out as an assistant coach for the Oregon Ducks. He was soon hired by John Calipari in 2010, working with the Kentucky Wildcats for nearly a decade and being named the associate head coach in 2014. Payne accepted a role with the New York Knicks in 2020, working with head coach Tom Thibodeau.
