Amid the raging wildfires in the Los Angeles area, thousands have been displaced, including the family of former USC and current Louisville quarterback Miller Moss.

Moss took to Twitter on Thursday to reveal that his family’s home had been destroyed in the fires. He issued a call to lock arms in solidarity as a community as relief efforts begin over the next several weeks.

“I was born and raised in Pacific Palisades,” Moss wrote. “This town was my home, neighborhood, and community for the first 18 years of my life. My family’s home, my grandmother’s home, as well as countless friends’ homes have been reduced to ash and rubble.”

First responders continue to battle the blazes in various locations, hoping to beat back the fire before any further destruction ensues. According to the Associated Press, more than 1,000 structures have already been destroyed in the wildfires, making it one of the most catastrophic events in the region’s history.

Moss called for the community to rise up amid the bleak backdrop.

“It is the unfortunate reality that regardless of political identity, we have been systematically and universally failed by our present leadership,” Moss wrote. “To say that is not to align yourself on either side of a political spectrum, but to render an objective assessment of what has transpired.

“Despite this, however, I know the community I grew up in, and have every belief that the Palisades will rise up in the face of unfathomable heartache and destruction. I will be putting some things together in the coming days to help with the relief effort; any and all help is welcomed with open arms.”

JJ Redick loses home to wildfires

Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick was among the many citizens in Los Angeles who have lost their homes to the wildfires, according to ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania.

On Thursday, Redick said his family members were among those who were forced to evacuate their homes on Tuesday. With the wildfires impacting the Los Angeles area, the NBA announced the game between the Lakers and Hornets has been postponed to a later date.

“I just want to acknowledge and send thoughts and prayers to everyone in the Palisades right now,” Redick said prior to the Lakers’ 118-97 loss to the Mavericks, per Fox Sports. “That’s where I live.

“Our family, my wife’s family, my wife’s twin sister, they’ve evacuated. I know a lot of people are freaking out right now, including my family. From the sound of things, with the winds coming (Tuesday night), I know a lot of people are scared. So I just want to acknowledge that. Thoughts and prayers for sure, and hope everybody stays safe.”
