Report: Louisville Athletics board expected to present 'significant' raise for Pat Kelsey

After a thrilling first season in charge of the Louisville basketball program, head coach Pat Kelsey appears to be in line for a significant raise. Soon, too.
According to a report from Sports Illustrated’s Pat Forde, the University of Louisville Athletics Association has called a meeting for Thursday at 1 p.m. He reports the board is “expected to be presented a proposal for a significant raise” for Kelsey.
In 2024-25, his first year with the Cardinals, Pat Kelsey coached the team to a 27-8 overall record. That included an 18-2 mark in ACC play, good enough for second in the league behind Duke.
Louisville would make the NCAA Tournament, ultimately falling to Creighton 89-75 in the first round. The Cardinals had earned an eight seed.
The first season for Pat Kelsey was filled with highlights. It included a win over a ranked Indiana squad, as well as wins against Clemson (twice) and North Carolina, among others.
The turnaround was remarkable. Prior to Kelsey’s arrival, Louisville had gone 8-24 under previous head coach Kenny Payne.

And as Pat Kelsey looks to continue to roll his success forward into the 2025-26 season, he has already done some nice roster building in the NCAA transfer portal. Expect more of that in the days to come.
Louisville adds top-five transfer guard
Kennesaw State transfer Adrian Wooley has committed to Louisville, sources told On3. The 6-foot-5 freshman guard and Tuscaloosa native chose Pat Kelsey and the Cardinals over the hometown Alabama program, among many other schools.
Wooley, considered a top-5 player in the transfer portal, averaged 18.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game this season. He shot 51% from the field and 42% from three.
Wooley’s timeline was an expedited one and it didn’t take him long to make a decision. He entered the transfer portal on March 27th, visited Louisville on March 28th, and committed to the ‘Cards on March 29th.
