The Louisville Cardinals have landed Tennessee running back Tiyon Evans out of the transfer portal. He was one of the top-ranked junior college transfers heading into the 2021 season.

Evans was the Volunteers’ second-leading rusher last season, going for 521 yards and six touchdowns on 81 carries. He will now join one of the ACC’s best rushing attacks from last season, where the Cardinals averaged 211.3 yards per game.

After entering the transfer portal in late November, Evans left a note for Volunteer fans. He thanked them for the support they provided but said he wanted to weigh his options going forward.

“First of all I wanna thank the Lord above for blessing me with the ability to do what I love to do,” Evans said. “Secondly, to the Vol nation I thank each and every one of you for the undying support that you give. That itself will last with me forever. I wanna thank coach Heupel and his staff for giving me a chance here at UT to be a Vol when he got the position and throughout this journey I have made some friendships that will last a lifetime. To all my brothers, love.

“After praying to God and giving myself time to think on what’s best for me and my family, I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal and weigh my options.”

Louisville lands second transfer on Monday

Louisville football landed a commitment from transfer receiver Dee Wiggins, who has spent the past four seasons with the Miami Hurricanes. Wiggins made the news official with a post to his Twitter account Monday.

“Keep God first,” he wrote. “Excited to be with CardNation.”

Wiggins had his best year with the Hurricanes in 2020, posting 31 catches for 358 yards and three touchdowns. The redshirt junior recorded four catches for 25 yards through three games with the Hurricanes in 2021. He entered the transfer portal on Oct. 18, before the regular season had ended.

A former four-star recruit, Wiggins was the No. 73 receiver in the 2018 class according to On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

A full list of players who have entered the transfer portal has been compiled by On3’s Matt Zenitz.

The news comes on the same day Miami announced it would hire Mario Cristobal as its next head coach. He will take over for Manny Diaz, who finished with a 21-15 record in three seasons with the Hurricanes.
