Jeff Brohm evaluates play of Louisville QBs in spring game
Louisville has a new-look quarterback room for the 2024 season as starting QB Jack Plummer is gone and has been replaced by former Oregon/Texas Tech QB Tyler Shough.
Following the Cardinals’ spring game last month, head coach Jeff Brohm broke down what he saw from Shough and his other signal callers in the spring game and throughout the spring.
Overall, Brohm was pleased.
“I think it’s about what we saw through camp,” Jeff Brohm said. “I think Tyler understands football. You know, he had a pretty good day. Maybe one errant throw on a sidearm slant, and a good play by [defensive back] Quincy [Riley] on a seam ball he tried to drive in there.
“But he drove the ball up the field; he was accurate up the field. That’s very important. Once we get into game planning and get to creating other ways to get completions, move the chains, he’ll be very efficient, because he’s an accurate passer.”
Tyler Shough comes to Louisville with plenty of experience as he is entering his seventh season of college football.
Up next, Brohm shared what he saw from Pierce Clarkson. The California native was ranked as a four-star recruit and the No. 26 quarterback in the country in the class of 2023, per the On3 Industry rankings.
“You saw Pierce [Clarkson] come in and he did some good things,” Brohm said. “I think just developing the consistency, finding ways when he’s in there to move the pocket and get him out where he can see a little bit and let him see things as well as he can but also give him some completions, as well.”

Louisville quarterbacks Harrison Bailey and Brady Allen also got plenty of reps throughout the spring, including in the spring game.
“I thought Harrison [Bailey] was a little shaky early on, but he can throw the ball, as well. I thought in the end he started getting in a groove. He was letting it rip, cutting it loose. He did a good job,” Brohm said.
“I think Brady [Allen] made some good throws, as well. Nothing perfect, but they all displayed that they’ve improved, and I think they understand at some point we’re going to need them all to play.”
Harrison Bailey is a former four-star recruit who spent time at Tennessee and UNLV before ending up with the Cardinals.
Brady Allen started off at Purdue, before transferring to Louisville when Jeff Brohm made the move from the Boilermakers to the Cardinals. Brohm is coming off of a 10-4 season in Year 1 at Louisville.
