Jeff Brohm on excitement surrounding Tyler Shough: 'He wants to go out with the bang'
Jeff Brohm put the ACC on notice in his first season as the head coach of Louisville. Finishing year one with an impressive 10-3 record and an appearance in the ACC Championship game.
Transfer quarterback Jack Plummer played a major role in the Cardinals’ success last year in his lone season with the team. And this year, the Cardinals will rely on Texas Tech transfer quarterback Tyler Shough to do the same.
“Well, we’re excited about Tyler and what he brings to the table,” Brohm said Wednesday at ACC Media Days. “Anytime you can bring in a veteran quarterback that’s been there and done that, that’s handled adversity, that’s had ups and downs, that’s been able to experience that, that’s had great success, but also a few failures along the way, and he’s battled tested. We’re excited about it.”
Shough started off his college career at Oregon before joining the Red Raiders, battling numerous injuries throughout his career but also achieving winning success as a starter. Joining Louisville with 4,625 yards and 36 touchdown passes under his belt with a 13-7 record as a starter.
“To this point, he’s come in and he’s been a great leader,” Brohm added. “He’s worked really hard, he’s put in the work, he’s gained the respect of his teammates by working really hard with them and studying football with them and arranging that. And making sure that our other players are doing it as well. But he’s come here with a purpose.”

As a starter, Shough has a 13-7 record between his time at Oregon and Texas Tech. Now joining a team that will look a little bit different than last year’s 10-win squad.
But Brohm is determined to maintain Louisville’s recent winning ways and set up yet another transfer quarterback for success ahead of the 2024 season.
“He has one year to play college football and he wants to go out with the bang. And I think that if we can play well around him, and continue to improve our football team, he will definitely play at a high level. So we’re excited about what he brings to the table and we want him to have the best year he possibly can, and it’s up to us as coaches to put him in the best position to do that,” Brohm said. “But we’re going to work really hard it.”
