Louisville RB Donald Chaney Jr. plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal
Louisville RB Donald Chaney Jr. plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal per On3’s Pete Nakos.
Upon his commitment elsewhere, Chaney will have one season of eligibility remaining after this one with the Cardinals following four previously with the Miami Hurricanes.
Chaney was one of four backs seeing carries this fall for Louisville. He had 50 carries on the season for 178 yards and a career-high tying three touchdowns. That was the third-most rushes on their offense behind Isaac Brown and Duke Watson while the yardage and scores were tied or behind them as well as Keyjuan Brown. Age could be a factor in this decision with all three of those backs currently being either true or redshirt freshmen while he’ll be a sixth-year player next season.
While with the ‘Canes, Chaney posted 175 carries for 852 yards and six touchdowns. He then transferred last offseason as the No. 19 RB and No. 208 overall transfer per On3’s 2024 College Football Top Transfer Portal Players.
Chaney, a native of Miami, played high school football at Belen Jesuit Prep. He was the No. 126 overall recruit there as a four-star prospect in the 2020 cycle. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also rated as a Top-15 RB in the class and a Top-20 player out of the state of Florida.

Chaney has been a serviceable reserve back in each of his five seasons at his pair of stops around the ACC. Now, a third and final team will get the chance to add him upon his entry ahead of his final college season next fall.
