Malik Cunningham will be game-time decision for Governor's Cup vs. Kentucky

The status of Louisville starting quarterback Malik Cunningham is still up in the air ahead of their game against Kentucky later this afternoon. According to college football insider Brett McMurphy, there is no ruling on whether Cunningham will play yet and he is currently a game-time decision. Here was the official word from McMurphy himself, via Twitter:
“Louisville senior QB Malik Cunningham’s availability today vs. Kentucky will be a game-time decision, sources told @ActionNetworkHQ. Cunningham, who missed last week’s win vs. NC State with a right shoulder injury, did practice this week.”
So the super-senior quarterback may or may not get one last crack at Kentucky — a team Cunningham has lost all three of his starts against, and in blowout fashion — 56-10 in 2018, 45-13 in 2019, and 52-21 just last season. Safe to say he’d like one more look at Kentucky before ending his career 0-3 against the in-state rival as a starter.

As for the injury — well, it’s a shoulder this time for Malik Cunningham, who’s an oft-injured player throughout his career. Backup quarterback Brock Domann is no stranger to having his number called this season, having filled in for Cunningham to take the majority of the snaps in three different games. He relieved Cunningham in the Virginia game, throwing 30 passes in a win in his first extended opportunity at quarterback. Then, he came in for the injured Cunningham again during the Clemson game and stayed starter through the NC State game the following week.
Now, Cunningham may be returning, but Domann won’t be frazzled if he has to step in once again. The junior QB has completed 52 of his 102 passes this season for a grand total of 737 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions.
It’ll be he or Cunningham taking the first snap at 3:30 ET when the Cards take on the ‘Cats.
