The Louisville Cardinals overwhelmed the Wake Forest Demon Deacons 35-0 in the third quarter on Saturday afternoon, thanks in large part to forcing Wake into six turnovers and there was simply no way the Demon Deacons were recovering from that. To put it into context, the last time the Cardinals scored 35 points in a quarter came over 90 years ago in 1913. Their defense was devastatingly dominant and frustrated Wake’s star quarterback Sam Hartman all game long to shock the 10th-ranked Demon Deacons with a 48-21 beatdown. Following his team’s historic performance, Louisville head coach Scott Satterfield spoke with the ACC Network’s Taylor Davis on the field.

“Well, the third quarter was insane. But what I told you at halftime came true. We knew we needed to create some turnovers. We were really close in the first half. And the defense played lights out in the third quarter, it was just, I’ve never seen anything like it.,” Satterfield said.

He also took some more time to talk about the historic performance in the second half in which the Cardinal defense forced eight turnovers. “Yeah, I’m so proud of [Bryan] Brown, our d-coordinator and our defensive staff and our players. They’ve done a great job. We had a low point about three or four weeks ago and did not play well. Since that point they have rallied. They’ve played exceptional defense. Turning everybody over. Making it easier for our offense. It’s a great team win today,” Satterfield said.

He also continued with how proud he was of his team blowing the doors off the No. 10 team in the country. “Yeah, extremely proud. Our guys are very resilient. They didn’t listen to the noise that was out there about three or four weeks ago and even this week. I mean, nobody gave us a chance. And to come out and get a resounding victory like that right there. That’s impressive [for] our guys. But you know what we want to peak at the end of the season. We’re still getting better. We’ve gotten a lot better throughout this year. We’ve got to finish strong. We’ll celebrate this tonight. We’ve got JMU next week,” Satterfield said.

Scott Satterfield’s defense was simply flawless on Saturday

It’s nearly impossible for the Louisville defense to play any better than they did in the second half against Wake Forest. The last time the Cardinals’ defense forced eight turnovers was in 1983 against the Army Black Knights. That’s nearly 40 years ago. The upset victory was Louisville’s first win over an AP top 10 opponent since Sept. 17, 2016.
