Tawfiq Thomas is headed to Louisville.

The three-star Tampa (Fla.) Gaither High defensive lineman announced his commitment to the Cardinals on Saturday. Thomas is the No. 795 prospect in the 2022 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Louisville offered Thomas in January and has remained consistent with the relationship since. He’s took official visits this summer to Kansas and Iowa State and held offers from Arkansas, Cincinnati, Indiana, Miami, Maryland, Syracuse and others. He visited Louisville last weekend, though, and he announced his commitment date for Saturday before he even left campus.

Louisville lands it second pledge in two weeks

After a very slow start to the 2022 class, things are heating up for Louisville over the past few weeks. The Cardinals added a commitment from defensive lineman Selah Brown on Nov. 4.

Brown, a four-star prospect, also posted news about the Louisville commitment on his Instagram account. The 6-foot-2, 251-pounder is the top prospect in the city of Louisville.

He picked the Cardinals over Illinois and Northwestern. He had nearly 20 other scholarship offers. Some of his top other offers were from Kentucky, Missouri, Purdue, Stanford, Tennessee, Virginia and Virginia Tech.

Tawfiq Thomas is commit No. 8 for Louisville

With the addition of Thomas, Louisville now has eight commitments in this cycle.

It was widely known that Louisville was going to sign a relatively small 2022 recruiting class because of the way its roster is structured. The small class is offensive heavy with around 40 days left until the start of the early signing period.

On the offensive side of the ball, the headliner is quarterback Khalib Johnson of Pinson (Ala.) Clay-Chalkville. Johnson ranks as the No. 36 quarterback in the country in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Offensive tackle Izaiah Reed of Jackson (Tenn.) North Side and receiver Chance Morrow out of Charlotte (N.C.) West Charlotte are high three-stars heading to Louisville.

Louisville’s top overall commitment is from On3 Consensus four-star EDGE Popeye Williams out of Westfield, Ind. Williams is the No. 9 player in Indiana and the 39th-best EDGE in the country, according to the On3 Consensus.
